"Lobsters
are good to eat boiled,
or fried is good
too, for me and you."

This website provides a window into an island world colored by the imagination
of chidren
who attend the Cliff Island school in Casco Bay. The school is an important
nexus for community life and has educated generations of families living on
Cliff. Island living on Cliff largely revolves around lobstering and life connected
to the sea. The school's connection to its lobstering heritage created the inspiration
for this site.
The project also represents
a collaboration between the Cliff Island School, the Island Institute and Bowdoin
College during the spring of 2004. Throughout the project, the diligent work
of the Cliff Students together with their teacher Judy MacVane provided content
for the site. Members of the "Anthropology of Islands" class taught
at Bowdoin College provided technical assistance in the web site construction
as part of a service learning project connected the class. Dana Leath, senior
fellow at the Island Institute, provided important connections between this
site and LobsterTales.org.
